Objectives

Get to know the beautiful and historical gardens of Florence and her neighbours
Observe and absorb Europe’s culture and influences on horticulture from the past
Learn about each region’s peculiarities, how to learn the history of an area through the garden, and understand the role gardens play as cultural messengers in Europe and around the world.

Program

The Florentines and their private gardens: beyond the private – the hidden! (A focused tour of the city) -
Villa della Petraia: how the princes arranged their gardens.
The Orangerie of the Medici family. -
The convent’s garden: for body and soul.
Flavoured and healing herbs from the Mediterranean area. -
Giardino di Boboli: the cradle of philosophy.

Learning organization

You will have the opportunity to communicate directly with those in charge of maintaining the gardens and have the opportunity to participate in the preservation of culture. With the cooperation of these “mini-gardens” you will have an experience beyond that of mere tourism.
